All of us at SAB are heartbroken to learn of the passing of recent alumnus Benjamin Lepson.

Ben’s journey with SAB began in 2007 as a young student in our very first Preparatory Division classes. Over the years, he grew into an accomplished artist, culminating in his Capstone year in 2019 when he danced the lead male role in Balanchine’s Concerto Barocco at our annual Workshop Performances. Following SAB, he went on to dance professionally with Miami City Ballet .

Ben touched the lives of so many in our community. He brought warmth, humor, and heart into every studio he entered, and his passion for ballet was evident in every class and rehearsal. He lit up the School with his dancing, his smile and his infectious spirit.

We extend our deepest condolences to Ben’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. We mourn the loss of a beautiful life cut far too short — and we celebrate the light he brought to us all.
Kicking off the weekend with another fabulous day of dancing at our New York Junior Session! Tailored for students ages 10-12, this week-long program gives participants a strong introduction to the Balanchine aesthetic and a taste of what it’s like to train at SAB. There’s just one more day of the program to go, we hope our students are soaking it all up!

The 2025 New York Junior Session begins today and we are thrilled to welcome our young students for a weeklong intensive at SAB! This week will not only immerse our dancers in the Balanchine aesthetic but also provide our attendees with nutrition and PT workshops, tours of our Lincoln Center campus, pointe shoe demos, Q&As with New York City Ballet dancers, opportunities for off-site excursions, and, of course, an incredible week of meeting other dancers and making new friends! Congratulations to SAB faculty member Gonzalo Garcia on his new appointment as Artistic Director at Miami City Ballet! They are so lucky to have Mr. Garcia at the artistic helm.
