Workshop Performances

SAB’s annual Workshop Performances offer a public demonstration of the School’s enduring tradition of excellence. Dozens of intermediate and advanced students perform alongside a live orchestra at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater at Lincoln Center.

Past programs have featured works from the Balanchine repertory, Bournonville excerpts, Jerome Robbins ballets, and other classical masterworks. In recent years, the Workshop has expanded to include contemporary ballets by Justin Peck, William Forsythe, and Gianna Reisen. The School also commissions new choreography created especially for SAB students—an exciting highlight of this year’s program.

We are excited to present three iconic Balanchine ballets—Scherzo à la Russe, Cortège Hongrois: Czardas, and Who Cares?—alongside a brand-new work by SAB alum and current Associate Artistic Director of Pacific Northwest Ballet, Kiyon Ross.

Notable alumni who made their pre-professional debut at the Workshop Performances include Wendy Whelan, Sara Mearns, Mira Nadon, Taylor Stanley, Robert Fairchild, Paloma Herrera, and Tiler Peck, as well as SAB’s own Zeta Ezpeleta Artistic Director and Chair of Faculty, Jonathan Stafford. We invite you to join us this spring and discover the talented dancers of the future.
