2023 New York Junior Session in Action

In the time between the end of Winter Term and the beginning of the Summer Course, SAB holds one of it’s most exciting annual programs – the New York Junior Session. This week-long intensive designed specifically for students ages ten to twelve offers an introduction to the Balanchine aesthetic taught at the School. Led by members of SAB’s faculty, the program includes classes in technique, pointe, variations, Pilates, and character, providing these young dancers the opportunity to get acquainted with the SAB’s year-long training, while sharpening their skills, building strength, and expanding their knowledge of the art form.

In addition to their dance classes, the program includes seminars in physical therapy, nutrition and the history of the School, along with tours of the campus, Q&A sessions with dancers from New York City Ballet, and concludes with a party for students to celebrate all they’ve achieved with the amazing new friends they’ve made throughout the week. Held at our Lincoln Center headquarters, New York Junior is also an exciting week for attendees and their families as they explore New York City and all the Big Apple has to offer.

It is always exciting to see just how much these young dancers grow in just one week!
