A Look Back at Summer Course 2023

It might be fall, but we’re still buzzing from this year’s Summer Course, SAB’s five-week summer intensive which gives students an introduction to the curriculum, faculty, and residential program at the School. This year, SAB enhanced our curriculum with additional technique classes for every level, added partnering classes, plus new weekly contemporary and choreography composition classes for select levels. Throughout the summer, students were able to improve their technique and expand their skills, all while gaining exposure to the Balanchine aesthetic!

Outside of the studio, Summer Course students participated in a wide variety of special programming with their newfound friends, like movie nights, cookie decorating and trivia parties!

They also had the opportunity to explore New York City, seeing Broadway shows, attending a Yankees game, admiring art at the Metropolitan Museum, and touring iconic NYC landmarks like the Empire State Building, Central Park and the Brooklyn Bridge.

A highlight of every Summer Course is our Summer Choreography Workshop. This year, SAB alumni Houston Thomas and Christina Ghiardi spent two weeks at the School setting original works on the most advanced Summer Course students. Take a look at some snaps from the performance and read more about this year’s Workshop in our recent interview with the choreographers.

We are so proud of our students and their growth this summer — we are already looking forward to seeing some familiar faces during our upcoming summer recruiting season in January.
