Issue 2 – Key Dates for Travel Planning

As we look ahead to the summer, there are some key dates and important events for you to keep in mind as you consider your travel plans for SAB’s Summer Course. See the outline below or download our Key Dates PDF.
 

Move-In Day Schedule – Sunday, June 28  

• Check-In – 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM  (See the Move-In Day Sheet for more information on your child’s check-in time based on last name)
• Parent Meetings – 12:30 PM and 4:30 PM (Attend only one. See Move-In Day Sheet for more info)
• Resident Student Floor Meeting (MANDATORY for resident students) – 7:00 PM
• Ice Cream Social – All Students – 8:00 PM

Monday, June 29 

• Placement Classes – 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM (A placement class schedule will be communicated closer to the start of the program)
• Academic Meeting (Optional for Parents) – 10:00 AM
• Mandatory ALL Student Meeting and 5th Floor Evacuation Drill – 4:30 PM-6:00 PM
• Mandatory Residential Student Meeting – 7:30 PM

July 4th Holiday - All classes will be canceled on Saturday, July 4, in observance of the holiday. Our Student Life team will schedule chaperoned outings and activities for July 4, but parents will also have the ability to check their children out at any time on July 4. Note that our full schedule of classes will resume on Monday, July 6.		Saturday, July 18 – All classes will be canceled on Saturday, July 18, to accommodate an all-day excursion to see New York City Ballet perform at Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, NY. All students are eligible to register for this trip in early May when the Pre-Paid Trips order form is made available.

Summer Choreography Workshop - A selection of the most advanced Summer Course students will participate in the annual Summer Choreography Workshop. Casting and rehearsals for the Workshop will begin July 13, and parents of performing students will be invited to an in-studio showing on Thursday, July 30.		Parent Observations – While SAB is closed to visitors for the majority of the 5-week Summer Course, students may have two visitors (no younger than 8 years old) observe their morning and afternoon ballet classes on select days throughout July. Our 2020 class observation dates will be July 10, 17, 24, and the entire final week of Summer Course (July 27-July 31). For security purposes, visitors must sign up for class observation in advance. We will make the reservation form available to parents closer to the start of the program. SAB is typically able to accommodate all class visit requests for the scheduled observation dates so it is not necessary to wait for confirmation before formulating your travel plans.

Thursday, July 30

• Choreography Workshop Studio Showing (late afternoon) – Select advanced students and their parents.

Friday, July 31

• Summer Course Closing Dance Party, 8:00 PM -11:00 PM – All students

Saturday, August 1

• Dorm check-out – 8:00 AM-12 NOON (Students are also permitted to check out in the evening on Friday, July 31, but the checkout process must be completed by 8:00 PM and checked-out students must depart the Rose Building immediately at the dance party’s conclusion.)

Summer Course Payments & COVID-19

The due date for your balance payments for Tuition and Room & Board fees has been extended and the new deadline is May 1. Please refer to the email you received from SAB’s registrar Amara Dieter for detailed instructions. Many parents are reaching out to inquire about SAB’s refund policies in relation to concerns about novel coronavirus and how the current public health crisis might impact SAB’s ability to offer the Summer Course as scheduled. As you can see from this newsletter, we are proceeding with optimism that our summer programs will be uninterrupted. However, should we be prevented from holding the Summer Course, SAB will refund all Tuition and Room & Board payments.
