Summer for the City 2023: Family Ballet Workshop

This summer, SAB participated in a special performance on the plaza as part of Lincoln Center’s 2023 Summer for the City programming. Led by our Associate Chair of Faculty Aesha Ash and Children’s Division Manager Katrina Killian, the free program featured recent SAB graduates demonstrating the fundamentals of the training SAB students undergo to become professional dancers.

The School was thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity to share the work we do with the New York City community. Ballet enthusiasts of all ages participated in the demonstration and practiced SAB exercises right alongside our performers. The demonstration included essential and easy-to-follow ballet positions, barre technique, and how to “spot” when turning.

The program then segued into performances of excerpts from Stars and Stripes and George Balanchine’s THE NUTCRACKER® giving the audience a glimpse of how the technical training in the studio prepares the dancers with all the skills they need to dazzle when performing on stage. The event concluded with introductions from the performers who are all currently dancing with New York City Ballet as new apprentices and members of the corps de ballet.

Thank you to Lincoln Center for having us and to everyone who joined us for our presentation!
