SAB Alumni Spotlight – Vera Wang
Watch as Alumna Vera Wang shares her recollections of the SAB studios, her teachers, and how she's applied the lessons she learned at SAB to her work as a designer.
The SAB community is truly something special, and we were thrilled to build on those vital connections with a brand-new initiative! In an effort to allow our alumni to engage in new ways while still building on beloved traditions, we hosted our first-ever Alumni Homecoming Week, and it was a spectacular success!
This week-long program was designed to invite participation from every corner of our community: parents, students, alumni, faculty, and staff, creating a vibrant, interconnected atmosphere throughout the School.
The festivities kicked off with a dedicated spirit week for our intermediate and advanced students, adding a playful twist to their daily training. Monday was Crazy Sock Day, when students showed off their silliest socks in class, creating a fun and lighthearted atmosphere to start the week. We continued with Decades Day, and students and faculty got wonderfully creative with throwback costumes, giving us a stylish glimpse into the past. Wednesday followed with Anything But a Water Bottle Day, which brought laughter to the studios as students brought, literally, everything but a water bottle to class. (Watch the hilarious recap here!) On Thursday, students were invited to wear their best shades of our signature Serenade blue to class, inspired by the costumes from the iconic ballet.
Our alumni were central to the week’s success, engaging with current students and the School in meaningful ways. First, we invited alumni to join a virtual audience for a special panel discussion where current students and their families heard from a diverse group of SAB graduates. The panelists—each with a unique career path—shared great insights about how their training at the School prepared them for success both on stage and beyond. The in-person audience included Upper Children’s Division students and parents, as well as the 2026 Capstone Class and their families, which invited insightful questions for the panel to discuss.
The following day, we were delighted to host alumni for a special tour and opening reception of our new Artistic Health and Wellness Student Center, highlighting the school’s commitment to supporting our students’ training holistically. Alumni, faculty, and staff gathered for a cocktail reception in the new space, celebrating the exciting programmatic initiatives it will support.
All the events of the week culminated on Friday at our annual Halloween Open House! This was truly a delightful day for everyone, as students and faculty came dressed in their best Halloween costumes for class. This year, alumni were invited alongside SAB members to observe the classes, boosting the Halloween fun for everyone and creating an extra layer of connection between generations.
We were so thankful to have our alumni join us in all these different ways to build community and highlight all the exciting things happening at the School. The success of this first-ever Alumni Homecoming Week is a testament to the powerful, enduring bond that defines the SAB community!

To wrap up our 90th Anniversary year, we asked members of our alumni community and faculty to sum up what SAB means to them in one word. See what they had to say, and join us in celebrating nine decades of pursuing the vision of Lincoln Kirstein and George Balanchine.
