SAB’s Cultural Programming to be renamed The Lassalle Cultural Program | Membership Newsletter – October 2020
On October 16, SAB celebrated the 45th anniversary of the Advisory Council – and we were thrilled for the opportunity to pay special tribute to its founding member, Nancy Lassalle. Nancy first came to SAB as a student in her teenage years, which was just the beginning of a long relationship with George Balanchine, Lincoln Kirstein, SAB, and New York City Ballet. She has devoted her life to the beauty of ballet, and in particular the School which she holds so dear through her work as an author, editor, educator, photographer, and philanthropist. During her longstanding tenure as a Board Member, Nancy founded the Advisory Council to promote national and international awareness of SAB’s achievements and support scholarships for talented students worldwide. Now 45 years later, the Council has welcomed 150 members from 28 states and 10 countries and supported the scholarship needs of more than 140 students.
One of Nancy’s many resounding impacts on SAB was in 2009 when she was the driving factor in launching the Cultural Program that has since enriched the lives of hundreds of students by providing them with a holistic exposure to the cultural landscape of the arts in New York City. To honor her many years of dedication to the School, the Board of Directors unanimously voted on October 14 to rename the program in her honor as the Lassalle Cultural Program. All of us at SAB are grateful for Nancy’s leadership, generosity, and friendship throughout the years and look forward to seeing her legacy continue through the lives of our students for many years to come.
