At SAB, our students get regular opportunities to work with many of today`s leading choreographers - regarded the world over for their artistry. Case in point: Alexei Ratmansky, NYCB`s Artist in Residence, visited our studios just last month to coach our advanced students in his own repertory. Swipe through to see snapshots of our variations classes in which Mr. Ratmansky taught excerpts of his 2022 ballet, WARTIME ELEGY. The fast-moving footwork and complicated choreography was a welcome challenge for our students. We just love it when Mr. Ratmansky visits SAB!

This season at New York City Ballet, two vivacious boys will make their princely debuts in the annual production of “George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker.”
Hannon Hatchett, 10, and Finlay McCurdy-Van Alstine, 11, students at the School of American Ballet, have both played Fritz — the mischievous brother of the child heroine — in past productions. Now, they’ve moved up the casting ladder to play the Prince, the most coveted boys’ role of all. The part demands real acting and dancing chops: A Nutcracker soldier, stiff and robotic, must blossom into a graceful, gentle Prince.
He must be brave. He must be elegant. And he must be able to perform in front of thousands of people. (“The Nutcracker” opens at Lincoln Center on Friday and runs through Jan. 5.)
