Ballet Connoisseurship for Adults

This spring, in honor of SAB’s 90th Anniversary, Ballet Connoisseurship courses will focus on foundational aspects of the School: the Balanchine aesthetic, its co-founding by George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein, Balanchine’s iconic work made on SAB students, Serenade, and the history of SAB’s annual Workshop Performances.

BEHIND THE SCENES AT SAB

@SAB_NYC

Each April, we like to take a moment to point out the importance and the many particulars that come with training en pointe, and so we’re excited to share a brand new Pointe Shoe Hack video from SAB alumna and current NYCB apprentice, Mia. Every dancer has their own unique method of tailoring their pointe shoes to work best for them. They also each have their own personal ways of prepping their feet to withstand hours of dancing on pointe. Watch as Mia shares her own tips and tricks... You may want to try a few of these hacks yourself!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Make a difference and support our students’ training by contributing to the SAB Pointe Shoe Fund - which allows us to provide pointe shoes for our students at a discounted rate. As many of them go through multiple pairs per week, this makes a huge impact on their ability to thrive in their training at the School.

Our hallway got a very special SERENADE sprucing over spring break! This new exhibition on the history and impact of George Balanchine’s SERENADE was curated by the Library of the Performing Arts for SAB’s 90th anniversary, as the ballet was choreographed on the first class of advanced students at the School in 1934. The Jerome Robbins Dance Division preserves images, video, and interviews around the performance.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Featuring a gallery of annotated images going back to the first performance of the ballet, it’s particularly inspiring to our students as they rehearse the ballet now for our upcoming Workshop Performances in June.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Stay tuned for more snippets of SERENADE history in the weeks to come!
