Honors for Lincoln Kirstein Wing

The design for the School of American Ballet's new Lincoln Kirstein Wing will be recognized with the “Award of Excellence” from the American Institute of Architects New York State during that organization’s annual awards presentation on October 5, 2007, in New York City.  The design by the acclaimed firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro transformed two of SAB's existing ballet studios into a suite of four distinct studios through the imaginative restructuring of space and innovative engineering techniques. The School undertook the expansion in order to broaden class offerings in the Children’s Division and to create additional rehearsal space for student workshops and other projects. As a result of the added studio space, SAB now enrolls six and seven-year-old students for beginning ballet classes. The previous minimum admission age was eight.
