2009 Mae L. Wien Awards

Peter Martins announced the recipients of the 2009 Mae L. Wien Awards in June at SAB’s annual Workshop Performance Benefit. Lawrence A. Wien, his daughters and their families established the Mae L. Wien Awards at the School of American Ballet twenty years ago in honor of Mrs. Wien, a great devotee of the ballet who was also deeply interested in young people. This year, the Mae L. Wien Faculty Award for Distinguished Service was given to Violette Verdy (pictured at far right with Peter Martins). The Mae L. Wien Awards for Outstanding Promise were presented to four advanced students: (pictured left to right) Emilie Gerrity, Taylor Stanley, Shoshana Rosenfield, and Ashly Isaacs. All four have been invited by Peter Martins to dance as apprentices with New York City Ballet during the Company's 2009-10 winter and spring seasons.
